``How Ayurveda helped me manage Osteoporosis. From bed to back on my feet ! `` - RANJANA KUMAR

According to the International Osteoporosis Foundation, worldwide, 1 in 3 women over the age of 50 years and 1 in 5 men will experience osteoporotic fractures in their lifetime.
The word ‘osteoporosis’ means ‘porous bone.’ It is a condition that causes bones to gradually become weak and fragile, leaving them at greater risk of fractures.
Osteoporosis is also called a “silent” disease” because it usually has no symptoms unless there is a fracture, that most commonly occurs in the hip, wrist, or spine.
Although osteoporosis occurs in both men and women, the condition is seen more commonly in women, especially in the menopausal age. Family history, lack of exercise, calcium and vitamin D deficiency, smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, low body weight certain medical conditions and medications can increase your risk to developing osteoporosis.
According to Ayurveda, balanced Vata in your body plays an important role in maintaining bone health. Aggravated Vata due to age – related factors may alter bone density resulting in osteoporotic changes. Ayurveda treatment at UWAY, focuses on bringing back the aggravated Vata dosha into balance and strengthening the bones for effective management of osteoporosis.
There are usually no symptoms in the early stages of bone density loss. But once your bones have been weakened by Osteoporosis, you might have signs and symptoms such as:
- Bone pain
- Back pain or neck pain due to fractures of the spinal bones
- Loss of height (getting shorter by an inch or more) over time.
- Stooped posture
- Bone fractures that happen with little or no trauma.
